LEARN how to control weeds

Weeds in lawns are unsightly. Broadleaf weeds are usually the main offenders.

In addition to making your lawns look tired and untidy, weeds like "bindis" (bindi-eye) and thistles, produce burrs and prickles which can cause injury to children and pets. Check out the Control Tab below to learn about the best products to control broad leaf weeds in lawns.

If you visit the hardware store the range of products available is often confusing and selecting the correct one for your situation can be difficult.

For years, Kamba M herbicide has been the product of choice for controlling a wide variety of broadleaf weeds in lawns including bindi-eye, thistles, flat weeds, clover, and capeweed. It is simple to use and very effective. Weed Force has developed its own brand equivalent to Kamba-M which is produced here in Australia. Our product is called Broad Sweep broadleaf herbicide and is very also very effective at controlling the same weeds as Kamba M. It is cheaper too, so it represents a good opportunity to save.

Winter and early spring is generally the best time to spray weeds in lawns. Repeat spraying may be required to deal with any weeds germinating after the initial spraying.

It is important to note that Kamba M and Broad Sweep herbicides are safe to use across a range of lawn and turf grass species, however these products cannot be used on buffalo grass varieties such as Sir Walter as damage to lawn will result.

PREVENT How to prevent weeds from coming back

Maintaining healthy lawns is the best way to prevent weeds from re-establishing. Once weeds have been controlled, re-seed bare areas if necessary and also regularly fertilize with a nitrogen based fertilizer to maintain strong, lush growth.

Care should be taken to not mow lawns too short as thick lush lawns help keep weeds at bay.

SPRAY tips and hints

Apply to actively growing weeds and moist soil.

Best weed control will result from blanket spraying ( 100% coverage) using accurately calibrated equipment.

Avoid spray drift onto nearby plants and trees
