Weeds in lawns are unsightly. Broadleaf weeds are usually the main offenders.
In addition to making your lawns look tired and untidy, weeds like "bindis" (bindi-eye) and thistles, produce burrs and prickles which can cause injury to children and pets. Check out the Control Tab below to learn about the best products to control broad leaf weeds in lawns.
If you visit the hardware store the range of products available is often confusing and selecting the correct one for your situation can be difficult.
For years, Kamba M herbicide has been the product of choice for controlling a wide variety of broadleaf weeds in lawns including bindi-eye, thistles, flat weeds, clover, and capeweed. It is simple to use and very effective. Weed Force has developed its own brand equivalent to Kamba-M which is produced here in Australia. Our product is called Broad Sweep broadleaf herbicide and is very also very effective at controlling the same weeds as Kamba M. It is cheaper too, so it represents a good opportunity to save.
Winter and early spring is generally the best time to spray weeds in lawns. Repeat spraying may be required to deal with any weeds germinating after the initial spraying.
It is important to note that Kamba M and Broad Sweep herbicides are safe to use across a range of lawn and turf grass species, however these products cannot be used on buffalo grass varieties such as Sir Walter as damage to lawn will result.
Use Kamba M or Broad Sweep herbicide (Weed Force equivalent brand)
to control a wide variety of broadleaf weeds including:-
- Bindi-eye
- Clover
- Capeweed
- Flatweeds such as Catsear and Plaintain
- Dandelion
- Thistles
- and many more broad leaf weeds

Maintaining
healthy lawns is the best way to prevent weeds from re-establishing. Once weeds
have been controlled, re-seed bare areas if necessary and also regularly fertilize
with a nitrogen based fertilizer to maintain strong, lush growth.
Care should
be taken to not mow lawns too short as thick lush lawns help keep weeds at bay.
Apply to actively growing weeds and moist soil.
Best weed control will result from blanket spraying ( 100% coverage) using accurately calibrated equipment.
Avoid spray drift onto nearby plants and trees

A 15-litre knapsack treats 150 square metres.

It is important to note that Kamba M and Broad Sweep herbicides are safe to use across a range of lawn and turf grass species, however these products cannot be used on buffalo grass varieties such as Sir Walter as damage to lawn will result.
DO NOT use on Buffalo Grass.
DO NOT mow turf for two days before or after application or fertilise within two weeks of spraying.
DO NOT apply under weather conditions or from spraying equipment that may cause spray to drift onto nearby susceptible plants/crops. Avoid spray drift and vapour movement onto susceptible crops such as cotton, tobacco, tomatoes, vines, lupins, fruit trees and ornamentals.
Minimise spray drift by using low pressure and nozzles which DO NOT give a fine droplet size. DO NOT use in high wind.
