Get on top of weeds before planting trees

Weeds pose a major threat to the establishment of plantations trees. They aggressively compete for water, light and nutrients and can severely stunt growth and even kill the growing seedlings.Further weeds create difficulty for access create a major fire risk, and harbours snakes and vermin. Mowing, slashing line trimming and cultivating are all mechanical means of dealing with weeds however it is also very easy to cause damage to the trees. This methods of weed control are only temporary and soon the weeds are back and you have to keep going back and wasting your valuable time to deal with them.It is best to prepare the planting site by controlling weeds before the young seedlings are planted. This give the trees the best start. Weed killers are available to also treat after planting however much care must be given to select a suitable product and rate otherwise severe damage can result.
